Want to be a Hockey Coach?
How to get Started
It is now easier than ever to become a qualified
hockey coach - and we ve got all the information you need to get
started.
By getting on the coaching ladder, individuals have
the opportunity to progress through the various Hockey Canada and OMHA
coaching qualifications while constantly enhancing their skills and
knowledge.
The OMHA delivers courses for aspiring coaches at
all levels, which are offered across the OMHA. Your pathway as a hockey
coach is based on the age and level of players you will be working with.
Speak Out!: All Team
Officials are required to hold Speak Out! [PRS] certification and
registered with the OMHA in addition to all other Certification
appropriate to their position, in place prior to the approval of their
Team Roster.
Entry Points for Coaches
Entry points for coaches are based on each program design being
geared towards providing an educational opportunity for coaches who
are working with a specific group of athletes.

Intro Coach
[Initiation/CHIP]
|
The CHIP
clinic focuses on technical skills and the development of basic
skills for players from 5-8 years of age in a fun and
supportive, learning environment.

Coach Stream
|
The Coach
Stream is designed for a coach who is new to the coaching
program and working with players at the House League/Local
League level.
|
|
Development 1
|
The
Development Stream is separated into 2 parts and focuses on the
needs of the coach working with Rep level players - Peewee and
above. The Development 1 clinic focuses on improving basic skill
acquisition and introduction of team play and individual
tactics.

Development 2
|
Development 2
build upon the concepts covered in the D1 clinic and the
curriculum includes team play concepts, strategy, and game
analysis. The D2 clinic also includes a formal Field Evaluation
component.

High
Performance 1 & 2
|
The High
Performance 1 & 2 are aimed at coaches working with athletes at
the Junior, University, Provincial & national levels. In the
past Advanced 1 clinics were typically held every 2 years in
Ontario.
