TRIBUTE TO A FALLEN COACH
Josh Chamberlain has goalie mask custom airbrushed
OSHAWA -- The North Oshawa Thunder Peewee hockey team knows what it's like to have to battle off the ice more so than on it.
About two years ago, their trainer/assistant coach Vic Weatherall suddenly passed away. A realization that life is short and that you have to live it to the fullest made the team united as they rallied around the Weatherall family to get them through the painful loss of a father, a husband, and a role model.
The team's goalie, Josh Chamberlain, now 13, was especially close to Weatherall. The coach had mentored the young goalie, and recently to pay tribute to a man that selflessly volunteered his time and wisdom,
Chamberlain had his mask custom airbrushed with Weatherall's face on it to show his gratitude.
"He helped me out a lot," said Chamberlain. "I just wanted to dedicate it to him and show how much he meant to me."

HOW ARE WE DOING? - TAKE OUR SURVEY
With the continued growth and success of our hockey program, it can be easy
to lose sight of some small but important details. We'd like to ask you to take 5 minutes of your time and complete our first ever
parent survey. It's very important to us to know how we're doing and what we can
do to continue to make our hockey program not only the best that Durham Region
has to offer, but provide you with the best value for that money as well.
Please note that we are not asking for any personal information within the
survey. We would like you to be as objective, honest, positive and constructive.

THANK YOU FROM N.A.S.C. HOCKEY
While the end of the hockey season is always a bittersweet affair, we now
look forward to the summer months to recharge our batteries and prepare for a
new season in the fall.
On behalf of the Oshawa N.A.S.C. Hockey executive, I would like to express
our sincere thanks to everyone who made this past season another success. Thank
you to the players, parents, numerous volunteers, sponsors and executives who
put in tireless hours to provide, in our opinion, the best hockey program that
Durham Region has to offer. We're already working on next years' agenda so
please check the website over the summer months for updates.
Day of Champions photos will be available on-line in the next week or so.
Thanks again for another great year, and we'll see you at registration!

N.A.S.C. TO OFFER "SUPER NOVICE"
NOVICE AGED INSTRUCTIONAL HOCKEY PROGRAM
(Based on city ice availability...)
Those players who have graduated from our "SUPER SIX" Instructional Hockey Program
are the focus of this new and exciting extended program offering.
All Novice players (7 and 8 year olds) will participate on their assigned teams and continue to
thrive and learn in their weekly program ( 1 game / 1 practice per week)
however, the players will be provided the opportunity "every-other-week" to
attend an additional structured "hockey school program".
The focus of the N.A.S.C. hockey school is to continue the teachings of the
successful "4 Luv of Hockey"
4&5 year-old hockey school and "SUPER SIX" Instructional Hockey Programs. The ice is broken into stations so that all players are active and are introduced to many different skating and puck control scenarios. Coaches and parent volunteers are encouraged to help and they also become students as well by learning the drills and techniques.
The drills in the hockey school are structured in a progressive fashion with the focus always being to teach the player to be confident on their feet. Skating,
skating, skating...The rest as a result, will come naturally (Based on the
success of our two existing programs, we've already proven our approach is
correct)

NOVICE 4 & 5 HOCKEY SCHOOL
N.A.S.C. Hockey is pleased to announce the return of Chuck Dill and "4 The
Luv of Hockey" Skills Development team for the 2008/2009 hockey season. N.A.S.C.
is honoured to be partnered with Chuck in continuing and improving upon our
achievements of this very successful introduction to hockey program. The
addition of our removable ice boards this year has been able to assist in
bringing the program an added level of structure and allows us to introduce the
program to a larger number of kids.
Our learn hockey programs are so well received,
they're "often
imitated, never duplicated" .
We pride ourselves in being the first and
the leader in Oshawa in "grassroots" hockey development.
For a child who is just getting started, having fun and learning the basics
is the key to building confidence. In order to satisfy both areas, N.A.S.C.
Hockey is pleased to announce the return of Chuck
Dill and “4 The Luv of Hockey” Instructors to its offering. All at
NO additional cost to participants!
N.A.S.C. HOCKEY PROGRAM FEATURES
Focused Instruction - "Making Hockey Fun...Through Teaching
Confidence"
N.A.S.C. Hockey is proud to be the first and the pioneers of
"learn hockey" educational programs at the grassroots level. Our
programs are "second-to-none" and we take pride in having "set
the standard" in what we feel "grassroots" educational hockey
programs should consist of.
We are delighted that our
"learn hockey" programs are so well received. They are "often
imitated, never duplicated".
We are unique as there are no additional charges to our participants for our
enhanced hockey instruction.
All program instruction is supplied by the league and is included with
registration.
We
also feature an easy fee payment structure as well...In addition to your
registration fee, ice fees are determined by division and are equally
structured. Each participant by division pays the exact same regardless of the
number of players on that team.
Now that we have 1-full year of our 4 & 5 year old Hockey School
under our belt, we have reviewed the entire program and have implemented new and
significantly improved changes for the 2007-2008 Hockey Season.
Please visit Novice 4&5 Hockey School Program

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRPERSON
Let's try to put House League Hockey in Perspective
Back in Novice, there was about two minutes left to play in a playoff game and I was anxiously pacing behind the bench, barking out whatever instructions seemed important at that very moment. You watch the game and you watch the clock in those final seconds, at the very same time....
